Note: The transistor is driven by 2 adjacent signals f1, f2 with equal output power levels Po for each carrier. The distance dIM between Po and the third order intermodulation products PIM (2f1 - f2 or 2f2 - f1) is: dIM = Po - PIM 2 where Po = 10 log (V o / (50 * 1 mW)) (dBm) and Vo = linear output voltage of each carrier. The 3rd order intercept point IP3 will be found by extrapolation to the point where PIM would be identical to Po: IP3 (output) = Po + dIM/2. Linear output voltages for other dIM (e.g. 50 dB) can be calculated thereby.
