page 2 intr oduction the pcio8 is an 8-bit i sa bus add-on boar d pro viding 8 opto-isolated digital inputs an 8 opto- isolated digital outputs. each input channel may be individually driven b y an external sour ce or from the on-boar d isolated +24v supply. the outputs ar e configur ed as open collector drivers with a capability to sink up to 500ma for channels 0 to 5 and up to 300ma for channels 6 and 7. pcio8 boar d inputs driven b y external po wer sour ce pcio8-dc/dc boar d fitted with +24v isolated dc/dc converter to pro vide excitation supply f eatur es ? ce compliant design ? 8 opto-isolated digital inputs ? 8 opto-isolated digital outputs ? output channels 0 to 5 sink up to 500ma 6 and 7 sink up to 300ma ? occupies 4 b ytes of addr ess space ? optional dc-dc converter ? s witch off pc ? install boar d in supplied configur ation ? s witch on pc ? r un e xa m p-01.e x e (supplied on the utility disk) ? an access l e d should flash. if not check default link configur ation. 2192-09070-000-000 j557 pcio8 page 3 2192-09070-000-000 j557 pcio8 oper ation reading or writing to the boards control of the pcio8 is achieved b y writing to a data r egister to r ead or write the r equir ed data. each time the boar d is accessed the r ed l e d will flash momentarily. opto-isolated inputs when an input channel is switched on the value r ead b y the host will be a ?0?. each input is configur ed as follo ws: output channels each output channel is switched on b y writing a ?0? to the channel control r egister. the darlington output will be sinking curr ent when switched on. on po wer-up or when r eset is asserted, all the outputs ar e disabled and switched of f . if the po wer on the host system is switched off at any time all the outputs will be switched of f . the outputs ar e enabled b y writing to base +2 addr ess. power dissipation and current handling for each device ic1 and ic2 in or der to pr event damage to the output darlington drivers, the t t o o t t a a l l po wer dissipation for ic1 (output groups 0, 1, 2 & 6) and ic2 (output groups 3, 4, 5 & 7) must be belo w 760mw @ 25c. this must be de-r ated at 6mw/c abo ve 25c. the follo wing chart gives a guideline to maximum curr ent handling for each device, and ho w this is der ated with incr eased temper atur e. note- output channels 0 to 5 ar e capable of sinking up to 500ma. channels 6 and 7 will sink up to 300ma. f or further information r egar ding the output drive capability of this product, please r efer to ar com p roduct notice no . 32 which may be found on the ar com w ebsite, or b y using the ar com f ax on demand system. page 4 2192-09070-000-000 j557 pcio8 page 5 2192-09070-000-000 j557 pcio8 i/o map i/o functions registers address offset 00 outputs outputs inputs output enable w rite r ead r ead w rite outputs r ead output control r egister inputs w rite bit ?0?
