mu connectors description corning cable systems is now offering an mu connector, which is based on the sc connector design. it is a compact and self-retentive, optical backpanel connector that can be installed in advanced optical transmission, exchange, and subscriber systems, or in high-speed data applications. there are two different versions of the mu connector available. the mu-a series is used in high-density, low-profile interconnect applications. the mu-j series is designed for use in backpanel connector applications, and employs a self-retentive mechanism to absorb the compression force off of the backpanel. this enables greater packaging density without risk of deforming the backpanel from the compression force exerted by the connectors. the mu connector is designed with four times the packaging density of conventional backpanel connectors, allowing 16 plugs to be mounted in a width of 100 mm on a printed circuit board. mu-a series mu-j series features/benefits high packaging density compression force absorbed by connector easy installation, operation, and cleaning excellent optical performance
