MP26121 ? +28v, 1a li+ linear batt ch arger w i th flexible ntc interface MP26121 rev. 0 . 9 www.monolithicpower.com 7 9/15/2008 mps proprietar y information. un a u t horized photoc op y and duplication prohibited. operation input voltage range the mp261 21 has built-in input voltage surge protection a s high a s + 28v. the ch arger ic will be automatically disa bled when the in put voltage is lower than 3. 0v or highe r than 7.0v. the open-drain pin acok is used to ind icate an input power good condition (i.e. 3.0v cc-> cv) figure 2 sh ows the typ ical charg i n g profile for the MP26121. for a fully depleted ba ttery with a terminal voltage lower than 2.6v, th e MP26121 will start with the trick l e charge (preconditio n ing) at 10% of the full charge current based on the value of r chg . if th e charger stays in trickle m ode longer than 32768 cy cles, chg becomes high impedance, indicating a battery fault. after t he battery voltage reaches 2.6v, the charger begins charging u s ing the progr ammed cha r ge current (i chg ).this is referred to as constant current (cc) mode. once the battery voltage reaches 4.2v, the charger will operate in t he constant voltage (cv) mode u n til the battery is fully charged. th e charge current drops during cv mode, and the battery full ind ication is set when the charge current is r educed to 10% of the programme d constant current value (i chg ). the charge process is then terminated. recharge will start aft e r the battery voltage is reduced to 4.0v. after 262144 cycles of continuou s charging, if the batter y still ha s not reache d 10% of the i chg conditio n , the on-ch ip tim e r will terminate the charger to prevent charging the dead batter y excessively and the fault condit i on will be flagg ed by flashi ng the chg led. charge termination the charge current will gradually decrease in cv mode a s the battery approaches full. the battery full threshold is internally programmed to be 10% of the i chg . when the charge current reaches thi s threshold, the charger ic will be automatically turned off. figure 2?MP26121 t y pical charging profile automatic recharge when v batt drops to 4.0v, the charger will automatically restart the charge cycle until the 10% i chg condition is m e t again. w hen the inpu t adapter is u nplugged, or the charger is disabled and/or termi nated, the leakage curr ent from the battery to the MP26121 is less than 1ua. programmi ng of charge current and battery full curren t the charge current (i ch g ) is set by a resistor (r chg ) connected from the iset pin to gnd. the relatio n ship betw een the ch arge curren t and the pro g ram m i ng resistance is established by the following table an d graph. table 1?r chg and i chg relationship r chg (k ? ) i chg (m a) 1 . 6 5 1 0 0 0 1 . 8 2 9 0 0 2 . 0 5 8 0 0 2 . 3 2 7 0 0 2 . 7 4 6 0 0 3 . 3 5 0 0 4 . 1 2 4 0 0 5 . 6 3 0 0 8 . 4 5 2 0 0 1 5 1 0 0 ? 2008 mps. all rights reserved.
